me, myself and i

Well as you may suspect, that’s my ‘everyday’ name, originally Marianne…

I changed the spelling of my name coz of some of my relatives. Instead of pronouncing it as is, they would say ‘maria-anna’. I hated it!

By the way, am Ugandan… yep, from East Africa.

I grew up in a very close family of 11 kids, I being the last born…

Sometimes I really don’t enjoy this ‘praised’ position, but most of the times, I honestly enjoy it. Sometimes I get loads of favours and other times, I’m the one doing the ‘favours’.

“Maryanne, pliz get me this and that…”, is all I hear sometimes and really get irritated but what can I do, respect is a very valuable and distinct necessity in our culture, let alone country. Needless to say, I obey. On the other hand, all the stress I get from running around is all forgotten when it’s reward time :-) .

Seeing that I am the last born, everyone tryz to take care of me, financially. Any time I wanted something, I would run to anyone and ask and I would naturally receive; of course at the cost of a favour.

Up until my 18th birthday, my motto was ‘Ask and you shall receive’, now it’s “survival’s only for the fittest!” I live in a somewhat peaceful jungle (I have 3 brothers and 7 sisters). Everybody talks, but not everybody is heard! Before I was 18, I was heard, now I have to yell to be heard. How twisted is that!? Twisted but fun! I’ve learnt loads of things from the ‘gang’, like survival of the fittest and always live your life to the fullest, and I mean to the fullest! I think big families are the best, I mean the level of co-operation is high. Some of my pals come from small families of 2-3, believe it or not, they know not how to associate with people, let alone survive in a room with many people. That is why I totally thank God for who I am, and the great person he is yet to turn me into (real quick, I hope!).
